Nakamura watched as his brother-in-law was bundled onto a stretcher and carried to an APC. Next to him, the shujin watched. “I hope he’s all right, sir,” he said.

“As do I,” Nakamura said. “I didn’t realize he was that badly hurt.”

“None of us did. He tried keeping it together, but I knew something was wrong when he started talking.”

“As did I.” Nakamura looked at the bridge. “How long would it take to place some of the C8 blocks on the bridge?”

“Sir?”

“I know it isn’t enough to damage the bridge, but if you were chasing an enemy, and you came across an unguarded bridge,” He motioned to the bridge. “What would you suspect?”

“That the bridge might be rigged to blow.”

Nakamura nodded. “And if you were to find a few blocks of C8?”

“You’d examine the bridge even closer for explosives.” Comprehension broke on the engineer’s face. “Which takes time.”

“Get started.”
